Tobias SCHULER (Senior Economist, Euro Area External Sector Division) and Alexander AL-HASCHIMI (Senior Team Lead, External Developments Division) will present the latest ECB work on the implications for the euro area of recent upheavals in global trade.
What do US tariffs and rising competition from China mean for euro area trade, activity and inflation? How vulnerable is the euro area to new geopolitical shocks, and how can the EU Single Market help strengthen the resilience of the European economy?
The presentation will explore how changing global trade policies and growing geo-economic fragmentation are reshaping the euro area's export prospects and assess its ability to adapt and remain competitive.
Speakers
Tobias Schuler is a Senior Economist in the Euro Area External Sector Division at the European Central Bank. His research focuses on international trade, global economic fragmentation, and the euro area's external competitiveness. He holds expertise in analyzing the impact of geopolitical shocks and trade policies on European economies.
Alexander Al-Haschimi is Senior Team Lead in the External Developments Division at the European Central Bank. His work focuses on global economic developments, trade dynamics, and their implications for monetary policy. He specializes in analyzing how external shocks and structural changes in the global economy affect the euro area.
