The economic impact of European capital market integration

Presentation of the paper

Date:
Time:

Location:
House of the Euro
Rue de la Science 37, 1040 Brussels

About the Event

At a time when the deepening European capital market is high on the EU policy agenda, the paper examines how deeper financial integration could boost investment and growth in Europe. It shows that, by lowering the cost of capital and attracting investors more willing to fund innovative projects, greater integration could have sizeable macroeconomic effects, especially if the additional investment flows into Research and Development (R&D).

The presentation will be followed by a broader discussion with:

  • Fabrizio Venditti, Deputy Head of Directorate, Economic Outlook and Monetary Policy, Banca d'Italia, and lead-author of the paper
  • Andrea Beltramello, Head of Savings and Investments Union Coordination Unit, European Commission, DG FISMA
  • Rebecca Christie, Senior Fellow at Bruegel Think-tank
