About the Event

Over the past decade, the EU has made substantial progress in reducing livestock-related emissions notably through:

Improved feed efficiency and herd management, improving milk output per cow and significantly lowered emissions per unit output).
A reduction of around 21 % in total methane emissions from livestock since 1990, achieved while overall production levels have been maintained.

Milk and dairy products play a key nutritional role in European diets, providing high-quality proteins, calcium and essential micronutrients. The central challenge, therefore, is how to further reduce the dairy production climate footprint while preserving farm competitiveness and the sector's productive capacity.

The key question is: can emissions be further reduced without reducing dairy production?
