The week is organised around the International Day of the Girl Child - 11 October. This year's theme, Investing in Girls' Rights, highlights how prioritising girls' rights is not only a matter of justice and equality but also a driver of stronger, more resilient communities. Across the globe, overlapping economic and ecological crises, combined with shrinking development cooperation budgets, threaten to reverse progress in gender equality. The European Union, as a global actor, has a unique opportunity to reaffirm and strengthen its leadership on girls' rights and youth empowerment—through both ambitious policy frameworks and adequate financing. What to Expect1Hear from Young AdvocatesYoung advocates from European, African and Middle East countries will share their challenges, perspectives and lived experiences on girls' rights.2MEPs and European Commission PerspectivesLearn where Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission stand on girls' rights and youth empowerment.3Policy Dialogue on EU FinancingBecome part of the dialogue and reflect on how EU policy and financing—across the Multiannual Financial Framework, the EU Global Health Strategy, and the Gender Action Plan—can best prioritise global girls' rights, ensuring girls' rights remain at the heart of EU external action.Programme14:15 - 14:30Welcome Tea14:30 - 14:35Opening and IntroductionModerator: Yelyzaveta Zaika (Youth Advocate, Ukraine) | Hosts: Marit Maij MEP (S&D, Netherlands) and Abir Al-Sahlani MEP (Renew Europe, Sweden)14:35 - 15:00Session 1: How Investing in Girls' Rights Drives Youth Leadership and Civic ParticipationYouth Advocates: Augusta Mapunda (Tanzania), Samsam Hassan (Belgium) | MEP Intervention: Marit Maij MEP (S&D)15:05 - 15:10Ice-breaker "Common Ground"Fatima Rafael (Portugal)15:10 - 15:40Session 2: How Policy and Funding Impact Youth Well-being and HealthYouth Advocates: Frederick Ladius (Tanzania), Joel Omiyo (Kenya) | MEP Intervention: Abir Al-Sahlani MEP (Renew Europe)15:40 - 15:45Masarouna Project PresentationHossam Chehade (Youth Advocate, Lebanon)15:45 - 15:55European Commission InterventionChiara Adamo (Head of Unit - Gender Equality, Human Rights, Democratic Governance, DG INTPA, European Commission)15:55 - 16:00Closing Remarks & Group PhotoAbir Al-Sahlani MEP and Marit Maij MEPSpeakers & Youth AdvocatesYelyzaveta ZAIKAYouth AdvocateUkraineModeratorAugusta MAPUNDAYouth AdvocateTanzaniaSamsam HASSANYouth AdvocateBelgiumFatima RAFAELYouth AdvocatePortugalFrederick LADIUSYouth AdvocateTanzaniaJoel OMIYOYouth AdvocateKenyaHossam CHEHADEYouth AdvocateLebanonChiara ADAMOHead of UnitGender Equality, Human RightsDG INTPA, European CommissionEvent co-organised by
