More than 200,000 people took to the streets to stand up for a democratic Hungary with equal rights. But Hungary's criminalisation of Pride shows a trend in Europe. The extreme right is growing, their autocratic leaders are taking over and – following in Putin's and Orbán's footsteps – the LGBTIQ+ community is one of their first targets. How do you defend LGBTIQ+ rights in an increasing autocracy? To discuss this, Green MEPs Kim van Sparrentak, Terry Reintke and Tineke Strik welcome Viktória Radványi, President of Budapest Pride and nominee for the Sakharov Prize. What are trends and patterns of attacks on LGBTIQ+ rights? How do NGOs in Hungary fight back? And what lessons we take from the Budapest Pride and Hungarian civil society on fighting similar backsliding in other countries, such as Slovakia?SpeakerViktória RADVÁNYIPresident, Budapest PrideSakharov Prize nominee Important – This event is by invitation, and only registered participants will be admitted. Due to capacity constraints, all attendees must register, including those already holding a European Parliament access badge.
