EP - Noise: The overlooked pollutant – Impacts and solutions for a healthier Europe
Noise: The overlooked pollutant
Impacts and solutions for a healthier Europe
Co-organised with the European Environment Agency (EEA)
24 June 2025 12:30-13:45
Room A3H1, European Parliament, Brussels
Over one hundred million people in Europe are exposed to harmful transport noise levels, a major environmental health risk causing cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and affecting ecosystems. The EU aims to reduce the share of people chronically disturbed by transport noise by 30% by 2030, but previous assessments show that progress has been very slow.
The event aims to raise attention and exchange views on noise pollution, its impacts and solutions. It also marks the publication of the EEA's flagship report 'Environmental noise in Europe - 2025', launched on the same day, which provides comprehensive analysis and latest information on noise pollution based on reporting under the Environmental Noise Directive. The event will draw on perspectives on noise from representatives ofthe European Parliament, European Commission, the European Society of Cardiology, Eurocities and the European Environmental Bureau.
Programme:
- Introductory remarks by MEP Antonio Decaro and Martin Adams, Head of the Environment Department, EEA
- Presentation of the main findings of the 'Environmental noise in Europe - 2025' report by Ian Marnane, Head of Unit on Pollution and Health, EEA
