Dying for the Sake of Football:
Culling of Stray Dogs in Morocco ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup
Hosted by MEP Anja Hazekamp and MEP Sebastian Everding
Morocco plans to cull millions of street dogs ahead of co-hosting the 2030 World Cup. Thousands of dogs have already been rounded up and violently killed across the country in the most horrific ways, as part of efforts to “clean up” the streets. Despite multiple appeals from animal welfare organisations, FIFA has not yet taken a stand on the matter.
In response to this situation, the event “Dying for the Sake of Football: Culling of Stray Dogs in Morocco ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup” will bring together various stakeholders from both governmental and non-governmental sectors. The objective is to examine the current situation and discuss concrete measures to put an end to this cruel and unnecessary practice.
