Mzia Amaglobeli, a jailed Georgian journalist and co-founder of two independent media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti, has become a symbol of Georgia's struggle for democracy, making her name inseparable from the country's pro-European resistance. Mzia Amaglobeli and Georgia's Pro-Democracy Protest Movement are among the eight nominees for the 2025 Sakharov Prize.

This event will feature Georgia's President Salome Zourabichvili, lawyer and colleagues of Mzia Amaglobeli. They will share the latest information about the ongoing crackdown on democracy in Georgia. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss the European Union's next steps in response to Georgia's growing authoritarianism, particularly regarding how to support the pro-democracy movement, protect the remaining independent media outlets, and free political prisoners like Mzia Amaglobeli.
