In 2024, around 38.5 million Europeans (8.5% of the EU-27 population) were unable to afford a proper meal every second day. Due to food inflation, food poverty has increased to an unprecedented level.

Many local solutions are developed to face these issues, especially by connecting people in need and the agricultural and food production sectors. At European level, the right to food must also become more effective, for instance by allowing adequate funds to food banks, implementing ambitious School Scheme programmes, giving a social dimension to strategic food stocks or adopting more efficient market crisis management measures.

This conference brings together associations involved in the ECHOP project, experts and representatives from the European Commission to discuss these topics.
